CANVAS CYBERSECURITY INCIDENT: Decatur City Schools has been notified of a cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the parent company of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). While this is a national incident affecting many educational institutions, we want to ensure our families are informed about the impact on our district.

Instructure discovered unauthorized access to its systems on April 29, 2026. On May 7, 2026, it was confirmed that a subset of Decatur City Schools' data was included in this disclosure.

According to Instructure, the compromised information includes:

Student Names

Student School Email Addresses

Student Assigned School IDs

Messages sent and received within the Canvas platform
